Sometimes you don't have time to learn long lists of words and phrases. All you want to know are the bare essentials for communicating to get what you need, or where you need to go.

Here are the bare minimum of Persian words and phrases you need to know to survive.

Pronunciation Guide
Vowels:
a is pronounced as a as in hat (æ)
ā is pronounced as a as in spa but with the lips rounded (ɒ)

Consonants:
ch is pronounced as ch as in church (tʃ)
gh is pronounced as a uvular g, far back in the throat (IPA ɢ)
gh between vowels is pronounced as gh, a voiced velar fricative (ɣ)
j is pronounced as j as in judge (dʒ)
kh is pronounced as kh as in loch or Bach (x)
sh is pronunced as sh as in shop (ʃ)
zh is pronunounced as s as in pleasure (ʒ)
